Pink Hair, Don’t Care

I just added a  #FridayIntroductions and a self-portrait post over on Instagram and thought I’d share the same here.

A few fun facts about me:
Pink is not my permanent hair color. It’s just my most recent look. Scroll to see the other pics above and you’ll see!

Note the Sirius constellation in my self-portrait, also known as Canis Major or the dog constellation. Did you know that Sirius is the brightest star in the sky? And dogs serve one of the brightest spots in my life. In fact, I’m just a tiny bit obsessed with drawing dogs, especially my own dog, Nigel, a 2-year-old Rough Collie who joined our family as a puppy in 2020. Nigel is my creative muse and inspiration for much of my illustration, but I’ve had dogs in my life since birth so I draw inspiration from all the pups who’ve left their paw prints on my heart.

I’m a Gemini through and through, which is symbolized by the Twins constellation in my portrait. Geminis are dual-natured and sometimes contradictory. For example, I love being social, but I also relish my private time.
🌏
I’m currently based in the Washington, DC area and I have visited 50 countries to date and 6 of the 7 continents. I have also visited Cuba over a dozen times since my husband is originally from Cuba. We just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary! TBD on where we will visit next, but maybe Bali.

Creativity is in my DNA and I’m proud to say, “I got it from my mama!”, @Bramblesstudio who is also an artist. I began my artistic career at the age of three with hand-drawn crayon murals. They were so well received that my mom traced them and turned them into pillows that are now family heirlooms. In late 2020, after a long hiatus, I reconnected with illustration again. I discovered I could sketch digitally on my iPad with Adobe Fresco and an Apple Pencil. These three tools have changed my life and pushed me creatively in new directions. You can find my creative toolkit here. I’m excited to see what the future has in store and I hope you’ll continue to follow along.
