Reset in the Outer Banks

It has been one heck of a year! The world is in the middle of a pandemic and life lately has been this Twilight Zone-esque thing. After four years at a job that was frankly stressing me out to no end, I finally got COVID clarity and found something new. I started last week and it’s been exactly the change I needed. But before I started, we (me, my husband Andy, and, my dog Nigel) decided to spend a long weekend along the coast in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The serenity and salty air we found there was the perfect antidote to reset and recharge.

It may have been the dead of winter, but that did not dissuade us from looking for a way to get away to the beach. After l spending so much time at home social distancing, we welcomed new scenery with open arms.

For four nights, we rented a little dog-friendly, ocean-front beach cottage in Kitty Hawk. It was Nigel’s first time at the beach so seeing him react to the beach and the ocean for the first time was a real joy. We learned he does not like water, so we will continue to work on that with him.

We were able to spend time at the beach cottage in Kitty Hawk. We watched the sunrise every morning from the front porch. It was too cold and windy to spend too much time at the beach, but we went for walks there a couple of times a day. We also visited the Wright Brothers Memorial and National park where the first flight took place. We had lunch one day in the little town of Duck and ate along the waterfront there (inside of course with a fireplace). And we also visited Bodie Island Light House which is very distinctive for its black and white stripes. The beauty of going during the winter months is that you have almost everything to yourself. No long waits, no lines, no people in your photos, etc.
